Start a Quilting Business: Make Reproduction quilts
If you have a little patience and love to pay attention to detail, maybe making reproduction quilts is the home business for you!
Almost everyone has a beloved quilt in your home, one made by a dear family member. Quilts are often transmitted through several generations. With time starting to show wear and can be used for anything other than display.
There are people who really love to use the quilts, but they know that the normal, everyday they are destroyed. Those people would have to pay for someone to reproduce an image of the quilt.
If you decide to make quilts reproduction as quilting your business, you need to know your customer wants clearly. Perhaps your client wants the quilt to use the same color scheme but to be sewn with new fabrics. But what if you want exactly the same cloth?
There are fabrics that are manufactured today that are reproductions that date from the 1800s. Tissues can be costly, however, so be sure to pass these costs along to customers.
Another option is there but there are several "if" that question: "if" the fabric is still in good condition, "if" the customer understands the new quilt will be so used as above but will be much more stable, "if" you have the direct digital printing items available in your area, you can create the quilt it for much less than reproductive tissues.
Digital direct to garment printing is a process that decorators to wear. It is NOT screen printing. It is NOT sublimation printing. This is NOT a transfer. Do not try to reproduce a quilt using either method. Any of these methods fade and wear quickly with time and not feel natural.
digital printers lay fabric on the top plate of the printer and print on the canvas as print media was a printer at home. The inks are water based, actually penetrates the fibers of the fabric to form part of the fabric. A heat press is used to dry the ink water, leaving only a soft tissue natural look!
To create a quilt of reproduction, you or your digital scan of the fabrics and create your own yards. " Printing area is usually about 14×16 inches, so that fabrics can be printed on the segments of that size. If your client does not care, and if you think the fabric quality good enough, you actually could scan in and print the entire quilt. You still have to piece the blocks together and quilt them.
To find a digital printer of clothing in your area, start by calling the T-shirt printers listed in the telephone directory. Ask if they offer based on water direct to garment digital printing. When you find someone to say yes, pay them a visit. Ask to see samples. You will not be able to feel any type of ink on products at all. You also may see a line around it, such as transfers tend to go.
If you choose to play as Quilts Quilting business, truly have selected a niche market. You can play that customers bring quilts to you, or you can play like sell quilts at craft fairs or your own online store.
If you choose to play quilts to sell at fairs, be sure to place a small label or a note that tells a little about history of the quilt and a picture of his inspiration, if possible. Sometimes, knowing a little about the history of the quilt is the difference between making a sale or not!
